ASASP welcomes ECHA response and supports further assessment on SAS classification
ASASP takes note of ECHA’s response to comments submitted by stakeholders in relation to the proposed harmonised classification of synthetic amorphous silica (SAS). ASASP welcomes the recognition that further clarification and assessment would support a robust and consistent basis for decision‑making under the CLP Regulation.
ASASP also notes that the issues raised in this case relate more broadly to the assessment of particulate materials under CLP, including aspects such as substance characterisation, exposure relevance and the interpretation of inhalation studies. In this context, ASASP supports further expert consideration of these issues prior to progressing with the harmonised classification.
ASASP welcomes ECHA’s openness to exploring options for the way forward and remains available to engage constructively with ECHA, the European Commission, and Member State Competent Authorities to support an outcome that is scientifically robust, proportionate, and workable, while ensuring legal certainty and the continued safe use of SAS.
